Zion sits on Lake Michigan about 45 miles north of Chicago, accessible via I-94 Exit 1. Highway 173 runs through town connecting to beaches and Illinois Beach State Park. The city was founded in 1901 as a religious utopian community with streets arranged in a unique spoke pattern radiating from the center.
