Zearing is a farming town of 566 people in central Iowa, about 20 miles northeast of Ames via Highway 175. Most visitors arrive from I-35 at the Story City exit, then head west 8 miles. The town sits in typical Iowa prairie country with a continental climate. Its towering concrete grain elevator from the early 1900s serves as a landmark visible for miles across the surrounding farmland.
