Zap is a tiny farming town of 200 people in western North Dakota's Mercer County, sitting along Highway 200 about 15 miles west of Beulah and 60 miles from Bismarck. The main route runs east-west through rolling prairie that turns into badlands terrain as you head toward Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Zap became famous in the 1960s when thousands of college students showed up for an impromptu party called "Zip to Zap," briefly turning the quiet farm community into a massive outdoor celebration.
