Yates City is a farming community of 500 people in west-central Illinois, about 20 miles southwest of Galesburg via US Route 150. Most visitors come from nearby Knox County towns on short trips, while long-distance travelers use Interstate 74 to Galesburg, then head west. The town's working 1920s grain elevator remains a prominent landmark across the surrounding cornfields.
