Yates Center is a small county seat in southeastern Kansas, home to about 1,270 people along US Highway 54. The town sits about 45 miles west of Fort Scott and 90 miles east of Wichita via US 54, with State Highway 75 providing north-south connections. The area features rolling prairie landscape dotted with farms and ranches. The centerpiece is the striking 1900 Woodson County Courthouse, a red brick and limestone structure that dominates the historic town square.
