Woodstock is about 50 miles northwest of Chicago via I-90 and Route 47, making it a popular day trip from the suburbs. The historic downtown square features 19th-century buildings surrounding the McHenry County Courthouse, with Route 14 running east-west through town. The 1889 Opera House on the square famously appeared in "Groundhog Day" and still hosts live shows today.
