Wood River is a farming town of 1,500 people in south-central Nebraska, 15 miles west of Grand Island via US Highway 30. Interstate 80 runs parallel to the south, with access through Highway 11 from the Shelton exit. The area features flat prairie farmland with corn and soybean fields extending to the horizon. The town's distinctive water tower, painted with the local high school's Mustang mascot, serves as a landmark visible for miles along US 30.
