Winthrop is a small mountain town in Washington's North Cascades that's famous for its Old West-style downtown with wooden boardwalks. Take State Route 20 from either direction, though the western route through North Cascades National Park closes in winter. It's about four hours from Seattle and popular for cross-country skiing and summer outdoor activities. The frontier-themed main street was actually built in the 1970s as a tourist attraction.
