Winthrop is a small farming town of about 1,000 people in northeastern Iowa's Buchanan County. Highway 150 runs right through the center, connecting to Highway 20 south toward Independence and Waterloo. Most visitors come via this route or from US Highway 18 to the north. The town sits amid rolling corn and soybean fields, and its historic grain elevator stands as a prominent landmark visible for miles across the prairie.
