Winthrop Harbor is a lakefront community of about 6,500 people sitting right on Lake Michigan, roughly an hour north of Chicago via I-94 and Route 173. The town serves as a convenient stop between Illinois and Wisconsin, with Kenosha just 15 miles north. Its location makes it popular for day trips from Milwaukee or weekend getaways from Chicago. The town operates Illinois' only public marina directly on Lake Michigan.
