Winona sits along the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota, where limestone bluffs tower 500 feet above the valley floor. US Highway 61 runs straight through town, connecting north to Minneapolis (110 miles) and south toward Iowa, while Highway 14 heads west to Rochester (45 miles). Most visitors arrive via Highway 61 from either the Twin Cities or La Crosse, Wisconsin, just downstream. The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart houses the world's largest stained glass window at 6,000 square feet.
