Winnebago is a farming town of 1,280 people in south-central Minnesota's Faribault County. Highway 169 runs north-south through town, connecting to Mankato (45 miles) and the Iowa border. Highway 22 provides the main east-west route. Most traffic is local agricultural and commuter trips, though the highways carry through traffic between the Twin Cities and Iowa. The working grain elevator along the railroad tracks has served area farmers for over a century.
