Windthorst is a small farming town of 537 people in Archer County, about 25 miles south of Wichita Falls via US Highway 281. Founded by German Catholic immigrants in 1891, it sits among wheat fields and cattle ranches in north-central Texas prairie country. The town was named after Ludwig Windthorst, a German Catholic political leader.
