Wilmington is a historic port city 8 miles inland from North Carolina's coast, connected by I-40 from Raleigh and US 17 running north-south to Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks. The airport sits 5 miles northeast of downtown via US 17. The mile-long Riverwalk boardwalk along the Cape Fear River features massive live oak trees draped in Spanish moss.
