Williamson sits along the Tug Fork River in Mingo County, connected by US Routes 119 and 52 through the Appalachian coalfields. The city of 2,900 is about 60 miles from Huntington via Route 52, with Route 119 running south to Pikeville, Kentucky. It's famous for the 1888 Hatfield-McCoy Election Day Massacre that happened on Main Street.
