Williamsburg is a tiny Rio Grande community along I-25, about 15 miles north of Truth or Consequences. Most visitors pass through on the interstate between Albuquerque (140 miles north) and Las Cruces (80 miles south), though some stop for fuel or use it as a base for Elephant Butte Lake. The town was named after William Sanders, who ran a trading post here in the 1880s.
