Williamsburg is a small Franklin County town of 372 people along US Highway 50, about 25 miles southwest of Ottawa and an hour from Kansas City. The main route is US 50, which runs east-west through rolling prairie and farmland. Most traffic comes from Ottawa or the Kansas City area via I-35 to US 50 west. The town sits on the historic "Backbone of America" highway that once stretched from Maryland to California.
