Williams is the gateway to Grand Canyon National Park, sitting along I-40 about 60 miles south of the South Rim. Take Highway 64 north for the most direct route to the canyon, or arrive via I-40 from Flagstaff (32 miles east) or Kingman (54 miles west). This mountain town at 6,800 feet elevation stays cooler than the desert below, with pine forests and four real seasons. The restored Grand Canyon Railway still runs daily steam locomotive trips from the historic 1901 depot downtown.
