Wickliffe sits where the Mississippi and Ohio rivers meet in far western Kentucky, making it a historic river crossroads. US Highway 51 runs north-south through town, connecting to Cairo, Illinois 8 miles north and Interstate 57 for longer trips. Most traffic is local agricultural and river commerce. The town houses the Wickliffe Mounds Research Center, featuring a 1,000-year-old Native American archaeological site preserved inside a building.
