Whitwell is a small Tennessee town of about 2,000 people located 30 miles west of Chattanooga via State Route 28. Visitors typically drive I-24 to the Kimball exit, then take SR-28 north. The town sits in former coal mining country in the Cumberland Plateau foothills. The local middle school houses a Holocaust memorial featuring an authentic German railcar, created after students collected 6 million paper clips for a remarkable education project.
