Whitewater is a small Kansas town of about 900 people, located 25 miles northeast of Wichita via I-35 and Highway 196. The main route from Wichita takes Exit 42 off I-35, then Highway 196 east for 8 miles. From Newton, it's a straight shot west on Highway 196 for 15 miles. The town sits along Whitewater Creek, which gave the community its name when settlers arrived in the 1870s.
