White Oak is a small East Texas city of 6,200 people located 15 miles northwest of Longview via US Highway 80. The town sits amid the Piney Woods region's rolling hills and connects to Interstate 20 about 10 miles south, providing access to Dallas and Shreveport. Most traffic uses US 80 for daily commutes to Longview or longer trips toward Marshall, while State Highway 42 offers north-south connections. The school district still permits corporal punishment, one of the few in Texas to maintain this traditional policy.
