White Castle is a small Mississippi River town in Louisiana, about 25 miles south of Baton Rouge via Highway 1. The scenic drive follows the river through sugar cane fields and takes about 30 minutes. From New Orleans, take I-10 west to Plaquemine, then LA-1 north. The Sunshine Bridge connects to the east bank and Donaldsonville. The town got its name from a white mansion that river pilots once used as a navigation landmark.
