What Cheer is a small farming town of 580 people in southeastern Iowa, sitting along Highway 21 about 60 miles from Des Moines. The main routes are Highway 21 running north-south and Highway 92 to the east and west. Most visitors connect to Interstate 80 via Montezuma to the north. The town got its unusual name from Shakespeare, when early settlers chose the phrase meaning "what joy" to reflect their good fortune in this fertile farmland.
