Whalan is a village of 45 people in southeastern Minnesota's bluff country along the Root River State Trail. Drive Highway 16 west from I-90 near Lanesboro, then south on County Road 1 for three miles. The most popular route from the Twin Cities goes south on Highway 52 through Rochester, then west on Highway 16. The historic dam and mill site features limestone foundations from an 1800s gristmill.
