Weston, the Lewis County seat, sits in central West Virginia's hills along US Route 19, about 20 miles south of Clarksburg and 80 miles northeast of Charleston via I-79. The city lies in a river valley surrounded by Appalachian ridges. Route 7 connects east to Buckhannon, while Route 19 continues south toward Summersville. The massive Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, a Gothic Revival structure from 1881, dominates the skyline and offers tours.
