West Winfield is a small Herkimer County village of 840 people reached via Route 51, which serves as Main Street. Long-distance visitors take I-90 to Little Falls, then Route 167 west for 15 miles, about 90 minutes from Albany. The rolling Mohawk Valley terrain here features farmland and forested hills with typical upstate winters and pleasant summers. The village's claim to fame is its working 19th-century covered bridge, one of the few still carrying vehicle traffic in central New York.
