West Salem is a small farming community of 713 people in southeastern Illinois, sitting along the Wabash River near the Indiana border. Route 1 runs right through town and connects north to Interstate 64 at Albion, making it an easy drive from Evansville or Mount Vernon. The town has a riverside park where you can still see traces of the old ferry landing that once carried travelers between Illinois and Indiana.
