West Point is a tiny Mississippi River town in western Illinois, reached mainly via Route 96 from US Route 136. The most popular route for out-of-town visitors comes from the Quad Cities area, taking US Route 34 west to Route 96 south through farmland. The town's historic 1908 steel truss bridge to Missouri remains a working piece of early river-crossing engineering.
