West City is a small Franklin County town along I-57, about 15 miles north of Benton. Most visitors take Exit 77 off the interstate when traveling between Chicago and Memphis. Route 14 runs east-west through town, connecting to Christopher and other local communities. The area features rolling farmland typical of southern Illinois coal country, and the town maintains its own well-based water system.
