Wellman is a tiny farming town of 286 people in Terry County, about 40 miles southwest of Lubbock on the South Plains. Take US 62 west from Lubbock to Brownfield, then US 385 south for 8 miles. The restored 1920s grain elevator dominates the skyline and can be spotted from miles away across the flat cotton country.
