Weeping Water is a farming town of 1,400 people in southeastern Nebraska, about 45 miles southwest of Omaha. Highway 50 runs east-west through town, connecting to Nebraska City and providing access from Omaha via Highway 75 south to Plattsmouth. The town sits on rolling prairie where corn and soybeans dominate the landscape, with Browns Airport nearby for private planes. Early settlers named it after Weeping Water Creek, thinking the wind through cottonwood trees sounded like crying.
