Wayne City is a small farming community in southeastern Illinois, located right on State Route 15 between Mount Vernon and Fairfield. The town of 920 people sits in flat prairie country where corn and soybean fields stretch in all directions. Route 15 provides the main access, connecting to Interstate 64 about 20 miles north through Mount Vernon for longer trips. Wayne City High School's red brick building from the 1950s serves as the town's most visible landmark along the highway.
