Waurika sits along US Highway 81 in south-central Oklahoma, about 30 miles from the Texas border. This Jefferson County town of 2,000 connects north to Duncan and south toward Texas, with State Highway 5 providing east-west access. The area features rolling plains typical of southern Oklahoma, with hot summers and mild winters. Waurika Lake offers fishing and boating just outside town, and the city hosts an annual Rattlesnake Hunt each April that's been running since 1962.
