Wauconda is a Lake County city of 14,000 about 45 miles northwest of Chicago, built around several small lakes including Bangs Lake. Interstate 12 and Routes 12 and 176 provide the main access, connecting to Fox Lake, Libertyville, and the broader metro area. The downtown area features the historic red brick Wauconda Township Building from 1896.
