Waubun is a small city of 419 people in northwestern Minnesota's lake country along the White Earth Indian Reservation. Highway 200 runs east-west through town, connecting to Mahnomen 8 miles west and continuing toward Park Rapids. Highway 113 provides north-south access, with Detroit Lakes about 30 miles south via Highway 34 being the most popular destination for services and shopping. The city's name comes from the Ojibwe word for "dawn."
