Waterproof is a small Louisiana town of 576 people in Tensas Parish, positioned along the Mississippi River about 30 miles north of Natchez. Highway 15 runs right through town, connecting south to Vidalia and north toward Arkansas. The flat delta terrain stays hot and humid in summer, with mild winters typical of river country. The town got its distinctive name from sitting on high ground that stayed dry during historic Mississippi River floods.
