Wasilla sits 42 miles northeast of Anchorage on the Parks Highway, serving as the Mat-Su Valley's main commercial center. The hour-long drive passes through boreal forest and wetlands, with the highway continuing north 358 miles to Fairbanks or south to Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula.
