Washburn is a Lake Superior port town in northern Wisconsin, reached via scenic Highway 13 that hugs the shoreline. Most visitors drive the coastal route from Duluth (90 miles west) or come north from southern Wisconsin through Ashland. The town sits between Ashland and Bayfield, making it a natural stop for Apostle Islands tourists. Downtown features historic brownstone buildings made from local sandstone quarried directly from the lakeshore.
