Washburn is the McLean County seat along the Missouri River in central North Dakota, home to about 1,500 people. US Highway 83 connects it to Bismarck (40 miles southeast) and Minot (90 miles north), while Highway 200 runs east-west to neighboring river towns. Most visitors arrive via I-94 to Bismarck, then north on US 83. The McLean County Museum operates in a restored 1914 courthouse downtown.
