Ward perches at over 9,000 feet in the Rockies, making it one of America's highest incorporated towns with just 103 hardy residents. Drive there via scenic Highway 72 north from Nederland, about 8 miles of winding mountain road with spectacular views. The route continues to Estes Park, creating a popular Front Range loop. Ward's post office famously operates from a converted 1950s school bus painted bright red.
