War is a small mountain town of 628 people in southern West Virginia's coal country. Located in McDowell County along US Route 52, it's about 45 miles north of Bluefield and 15 miles south of Welch. Most visitors arrive via the winding Route 52 corridor, which offers scenic mountain views but limited EV charging. The town got its distinctive name from the local Warr family when the post office opened in 1906.
