Wapato is a small agricultural city in Washington's Yakima Valley, about 15 miles southeast of Yakima via US Highway 97 and local roads. The town sits in prime orchard and vineyard country, with easy access from Interstate 82 through Yakima or from Seattle via I-90 and I-82. The name comes from a Chinook word for arrowhead-shaped tubers that once grew in the valley's wetlands.
