Wamsutter is a tiny railroad town on Interstate 80 in south-central Wyoming, about 100 miles east of Rock Springs. Highway 789 branches north here toward Lander, while I-80 continues east to Laramie and Cheyenne or west to Salt Lake City. The high desert setting at 6,700 feet brings harsh winters and mild summers. The town operates one of the few 24-hour truck stops between Rock Springs and Rawlins.
