Walsenburg sits along Interstate 25 about 50 miles south of Pueblo, serving as Huerfano County's seat in the shadow of the Spanish Peaks. The town of 3,000 sits at a key junction where US 160 heads west toward the San Luis Valley and Four Corners. Most visitors pass through on I-25 between Denver and Santa Fe or take Highway 160 toward southwestern Colorado's attractions. The 1904 county courthouse, built from local red sandstone, stands four stories tall as the town's most recognizable landmark.
