Walnut Grove is a farming town of 800 people in southwestern Minnesota, famous as Laura Ingalls Wilder's childhood home from the Little House books. Located on Highway 14 about 120 miles from Minneapolis, it's a natural stop for cross-country travelers heading to South Dakota. The Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum preserves artifacts from the pioneer family's 1870s homestead, including their original dugout site along Plum Creek.
