Walnut Grove is a small Alabama community of about 900 people in Etowah County, accessible via Highway 278 about 10 miles northeast of Gadsden. The route connects to Interstate 59 for Birmingham travelers, while locals use it for Gadsden shopping runs and lake access. Northeast Alabama Regional Airport sits 12 miles southwest. The town got its name from black walnut trees that early settlers discovered along Big Wills Creek.
