Wakefield is a small Upper Peninsula town along US-2 near the Wisconsin border, surrounded by forests and lakes. Most visitors arrive on US-2 from Iron River or continue west into Wisconsin, while M-28 connects south to larger cities. The town sits in heavy snow country with long winters and brief summers. You can still see one of the area's original 1950s neon motel signs glowing along the main highway.
