Wake Forest is an 18-mile drive northeast of Raleigh via US-1, which runs straight through town as the main commercial strip. NC-98 connects east to I-95 for long-distance trips, while US-401 links to northern destinations. The former Wake Forest University campus now houses a historical museum featuring Maya Angelou's preserved dormitory room from her student days.
