Waconia sits on Lake Waconia's shore, 35 miles southwest of Minneapolis via Highway 5. The 3,080-acre lake dominates the landscape in this rolling lake country terrain. Highway 5 runs through downtown, connecting to the Twin Cities, while Highway 284 links north to regional routes. Each winter, the frozen lake hosts an entire village of ice fishing houses.
